Communicating with one another while wearing masks has proven to be challenging for people that are not suffering from hearing loss. For those who rely on lip-reading to enhance their understanding, face masks can prove to be particularly challenging. The Danish Association of the Hard of Hearing compiled tips to enhance communication with people with hearing impairment while wearing face masks. We understand that our patients must assume some risk every time they leave their homes, but we also understand that receiving proper audiological care is an integral part of living their best lives.

Here are just a few of the many precautions we are taking to keep you safe:

• Following all CDC guidelines
• Thoroughly cleaning the waiting room between each patient
• Scheduling blocks of cleaning time between each patient
• Eliminated walk-ins (appointment only)
• One patient in the office at a time
• Providing curbside visits for patients that do not wish to enter the office
• Providing Telecare or Telehealth option for programming most hearing aids

We are taking COVID-19 and your healthcare seriously. We will continue to follow CDC and other appropriate guidelines. The CDC is now recommending that all patients over 60 years old reschedule medical visits that can wait. We would ask that you follow those recommendations. According to a recent article by Signia, myths and mystery surrounding hearing aids contribute to fewer than 25% of people in the United States affected by hearing loss receive the treatment they need. The article goes on to explain that hearing aids are NOT bulky, only for old people, or cheaper online.
